about

On this track I had been listening to a lot of Otis Redding. Things were changing in my life in a big way. A long term relationship I had been in was ending.
I went in to the studio in the garage, sat down and begin singing this song. The words came next and I began putting the chords together.
On this particular recording, I went to Scotty's place to record bass. During playback I dumped all the tracks. I essentially erased the whole song....all 24 tracks. The only recording I had left was a rough mix...very rough. I was still working on the backing vocals. Needless to say, I was not pleased. But, in order to honor the deadline and get to the gigs I had already booked, the rough mix plus Scotty's bass line turned the song in to a 2 track song, and there ya go.

lyrics

Bring Yourself Back
music & lyrics by: Lisa Marshall

V1: What makes a heart break so slow?
What makes a mind think it’s time to go?
Sometimes a woman stands in her own way, she’s lost in the words
V2: A woman must prove to herself that she can do anything
Don’t need anyone too much one day they, might put you down
Oh and scream for her own heart
That’s been broken
Chorus:
So won’t you please bring back your warm embrace
You know there’s not much more that I can take
Why can’t there be..there’s no more love lost in this world
‘Cause I am so, so, so....lost
V3: Surrounded by four walls that just don’t make any sense
To cast off these chains that I have put me in
Nothing seems right, I can’t go back to where I have been, no, no, no
Chorus:
