Visual- I imagined a dark forrest through which many have passed including myself.
Very deep within it a woman sits perched on a think branch of an evergreen with wings like an owl.
Her skin is dark, her eyes glow in the darkness.
She is frightening and comforting. She is there to see if you will turn from her gaze yet somehow you know she is protecting you.
She is a Goddess. A Goddess of dreams and lost paths.
She is focussed upon you with pure positive energy, flowing it to you. It is up to you to accept it..’she’ll give you a worm from her ground’ She’ll give you what you want and need from Mother Earth.
It’s also about the hundreds of years women have endured prosecution, torture, murder, rape, and the constant patriarchy trying to make laws which undermine the equality of women which I personally think stems from absolute fear of the power we possess.
“Don’t hide yourself away. High on her perch. A woman of love is at work. If her stare done make you back down, she’ll give you a worm from her ground…”
1st verse: ‘you got me under…
It’s the first time seeing her. I am wondering if I am in a dream.
2nd verse: ‘You got me going. Follow which way to the sky..
Dual meaning possibly?- It’s partly feeling the empowerment of her and speaking to a lover
Part 2
The time signature change.
"In the years that go by so fast. You know she gave you a love to last… “
It’s the exhilaration of this meeting and then the ebb and flow of life..feeling connected and not and then again.
“Sometimes life just bring’s on too much..”
Sometimes it feels that way.
“she gets down on her knees ask for it to stop just for one , one minute..”
For me this is when I forget my connection, or get too far from it. Sometimes just a short distance from it. Forgetting who I really am..extension of Source.
“Oh there’s too much pain..”
When I get caught up in taking things personally.
“So much to share, so much to share..”
And then there’s the facet of feeling so much love for everyone and everything.
“With a gust, a mighty wind someday you will be free a bird on her perch.”
A gentle or big push and I am reunited with her on her perch
“A woman of love, is a woman at work.”
lyrics
V1- You got me under your quaint little spell you sure can tell Roll roll like thunder, across the dream, across the dream Don’t hide yourself away
Chorus- High on her perch, A woman of love is at work If her stare don’t make you back down, she’ll give you a worm from her ground, give you a worm from her ground
V2- You got me going. Follow which way to the sky? Follow down, follow ‘round Any way is quite alright, any way it’s quite alright, Don’t hide yourself away
Chorus
Time change:
In the years that go by so fast You know she gave you a love to last, yes she did, she did
But oh from high on her perch she looked down on you she gave to you She gave, but now she’s gone, she’s gone away, she’s gone away
You know sometimes, sometimes life just brings on too much, too much But you got no choice you might as well just face up try, try, try Let those little things just roll on by You have to, oh but then she gets down on her knees and ask for it to stop just for one, just for one, one minute you see Well there’s too much pain, there’s so much, So much to share, so much to share,
with a gust and mighty wind some day you will be free a bird on her perch,
A bird on her perch is a woman at work
Retro Soul Folk-
Funk Blues.
Lisa Marshall is a singer/songwriter based in Austin, TX. “The cocktail that is her music (a funky, soulful blues) can’t really be called fusion, but more of a stirred mow-town mixer. Lisa Marshall is on the fast track of positioning herself as one Austin’s staple female artists.” -Steven Blythe, Austin Post...more
